McLaren Mercedes recently announced the exciting sports news that they have signed Jenson Button, the reigning F1 World Champion, to a multi-year deal.
Button will join 2008 champion Lewis Hamilton, who is going into his fourth season as a driver with McLaren Mercedes.
This deal marks a first in Formula 1 history. Never before has a team begun their season with a line-up made up of the two most recent World Champions. The new McLaren Mercedes team is looking to be a force to be reckoned with and sports betting enthusiasts will surely be keeping their eyes on this team. The contract also marks the first time that two British World Champions have been partnered on one team in over 30 years. The last was in 1968, when Jim Clark was partnered with Graham Hill at Lotus.
When asked why he was leaving Brawn GP, whom he won his championship with, Button said that he was out to set new challenges for himself. He said, "When I visited the McLaren Technology Centre earlier this month, it wasn't simply the technical resources and incredible standards of excellence that impressed me. No, I was equally struck by the ambition, the motivation and the winning spirit that flow through everybody there". It was this spirit that enticed Button into signing with McLaren.
